Summary

Apple is preparing to launch the new iPhone 15 family and roughly one month ahead of the official reveal in September 2023, we know almost everything about these upcoming phones thanks to countless leaks and rumors

This is one of the biggest upgrades in the iPhone family so far, so there is a lot to be excited about.

iPhone 15 At a Glance

Apple is expected to unveil four models in the iPhone 15 series, following the same playbook from the iPhone 14 family, so we will have the following: iPhone 15iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Out of these, we will have two smaller iPhones with 6.1-inch screens, and two larger ones with 6.7-inch displays. The most affordable in the bunch will be the regular iPhone 15. It is expected to come with a 6.1-inch display and two rear cameras. Then at a slightly higher price comes the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus which will have a bigger battery, but again only two cameras.

And then, you've got the more expensive Pro models, and both of them will have the new A17 Bionic chip along with more RAM. The smaller 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro will keep the familiar triple rear camera setup, and finally, we will have the larger iPhone 15 Pro Max, which will be the first iPhone ever to have a 5X-6X periscope zoom camera instead of the 3X telephoto one.

So let’s take a look at the 10 most important new iPhone 15 features:

  • All four iPhone 15 models will now have a USB-C port instead of Lightning
  • All four iPhone 15 devices will come with Dynamic Island
  • iPhone 15 and 15 Plus to run on A16 chip
  • iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max to run on the newer A17 chip
  • Pro models will use titanium instead of stainless steel which will help reduce their weight
  • iPhone 15 Pro models replace mute switch with new and programmable Action Button
  • Possibly larger batteries on all four models
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max will get a brand new periscope zoom camera with longer zoom range
  • Regular iPhone 15 models will have upgraded main camera with 48MP sensor
  • Possible faster 35W wired charging

So... what else is new? We dive deeper below exploring all these new features and more, so read on to find out all about the iPhone 15 family!

         iPhone 15 release date

Apple's iPhone launches follows a schedule that hasn't changed in years: the official announcement happens in early to mid September, while the release date is roughly 10 days after the debut.

iPhone 15 price

Higher price for the Pro models, but expect some sweet trade-in deals at carriers

We still don't know the pricing of the iPhone 15 series, but recent reports claim that Apple is planning to increase the prices for the Pro models, and recently we have even heard that the vanilla models might also cost a bit more. Reports cite that higher prices for the new processors are the main driving force behind that.

The first report about an iPhone 15 Pro price increase actually arrived way back in January from a popular user on Chinese microblog Weibo. It suggested a price hike for the Pro models, but did not specify the extent of it.

A second report landed in March. This time it came from a source with a much more established track record: industry analyst Jeff Pu from Hong Kong-based investment firm Haitong International Securities, who has had a number of correct predictions in the past.

In that report, Pu predicted a price increase for the two Pro models that is justified by hardware upgrades that were driving Apple's price up. The more expensive components mentioned included the new titanium frame, the more advanced A17 chip, an increase in the amount of RAM, and the periscope zoom lens in the Pro Max model. However, that report also quoted the rumored haptic buttons as a reason for the price increase, and since then new information surfaced that Apple has cancelled plans for those haptic buttons and will be using regular physical keys instead.

For the past few years, Apple has sold the smaller iPhone Pro model starting from $999, and the larger iPhone Pro Max model starting at $1,099 in the United States. If these reports are true, our speculation is that the starting price of the Pro iPhones can go up by $100.

And just recently, in June, a Wall Street analyst predicted that the price hike will spread to the vanilla iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Plus models too. We still don't have enough evidence to be sure this is happening, but it's definitely a possibility.

In late July, Bloomberg also confirmed expectations that the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max models will cost more.

Keep in mind, that we are discussing the US prices. Last year Apple kept prices of the iPhone 14 family unchanged in the US, but the prices in the UK and Europe went up significantly. We don't currently know if Apple is planning yet another price increase for those countries.

iPhone 15 expected US prices:
  • starting from $800 or $850 if there is a price hike

iPhone 15 Plus expected prices:
  • starting from $900 or $950 if there is a price hike

iPhone 15 Pro expected prices:
  • $1099 for 256GB
  • $1299 for 512GB
  • $1499 for 1TB
*iPhone 15 Pro prices are rumored to go up by $100.

iPhone 15 Pro Max expected prices:
  • $1199 for 256GB
  • $1399 for 512GB
  • $1599 for 1TB
*iPhone 15 Pro Max prices are rumored to go up by $100.

In any case, Apple is reportedly having very high hopes about the potential sales of the iPhone 15 Pro. See, Cupertino has apparently ordered way more iPhone 15 Pro displays in comparison with iPhone 14 Pro displays at the same time last year. So, one way or another, the iPhone 15 Pro could be this iPhone's generation best-seller.

And one final detail: a recent report claims carriers will offer some very good trade-in deals to soften the blow with the higher prices, so it might be wise to wait a bit to find the best deal instead of rushing to buy immediately after the announcement.

iPhone 15 expected name

Media and leaks all refer to the upcoming 2023 iPhone series as "iPhone 15".

This is most likely going to be the final name since in the last few years Apple hasn't used "S" extensions, so an iPhone 14S or anything else seems very unlikely.

However, there is a bit of a controversy with one of the models in the series. Back in September, one of the best sources on Apple, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, reported that Apple is planning to change the Pro Max model and launch it as "iPhone 15 Ultra" in light of the many new features in that model.

However, Gurman walked back this prediction in February. Instead, Gurman reported then that Apple is expected to introduce a new, higher-end "Ultra" model on top of the Pro Max, but that model - he updated his prediction - would launch next year, in 2024. Yes, this would mean that we will see five iPhone 16 models and among them this premium iPhone 16 Ultra.

However, going back to the current year, we expect to see the familiar four model names in the iPhone 15 lineup. The names are expected to be as follows:

  • iPhone 15
  • iPhone 15 Plus
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max (or a very slight chance we might actually get an iPhone 15 Ultra)
